T1 Loneliness in old age: understanding to intervene

AB Loneliness is a complex phenomenon that hasgained increasing importance both socially and academically in recent years. This new and growing socialreality presents challenges at various levels (health,employment, legal, administrative, etc.) and constitutes a significant challenge for administration. Highquality social relationships stand out as a strategy toreduce loneliness and social isolation, forming part ofthe WHO’s proposals for promoting active and healthyaging. To address this challenge, it is necessary to understand what loneliness is, its impact on health, thetypical characteristics of those who experience it, andthe possibilities for intervention. The purpose of thiswork is to review and summarize recent scientific literature on these issues, with a special focus on the Spanish context
AB La soledad es un fenómeno complejo que en los últimos años ha ido adquiriendo mayor relevancia a nivel social y académico. Esta nueva y creciente realidad social plantea retos a diferentes niveles (sanitario, laboral, legal, administrativo, etc.) y constituye un importante desafío para la administración. Las relaciones sociales de calidad destacan como estrategia para reducir la soledad y el aislamiento social, y forman parte de las propuestas de la OMS para la promoción del envejecimiento activo y saludable. Para afrontar este desafío es necesario conocer qué es la soledad y qué impacto tiene en la salud, qué características suelen tener las personas que la experimentan y cuáles son las posibilidades de intervención. El propósito de este trabajo es revisar y resumir la literatura científica reciente sobre estas cuestiones, con especial referencia al contexto español
