T1 Campillo shear zone: continental tectonic structure in the southweast of the Iberian Massif

AB We describe the main features of the Campillo shear zone, a band of intense deformation made of myloniticto ultramylonitic rocks bearing a vertical foliation and subhorizontal stretching lineations. The shear zoneis more than 2 km thick and extends along more than 100 km representing one of the largest tectonicstructures of the Ossa-Morena Zone, comparable to the Badajoz-Córdoba Blastomylonitic Belt. Its longlastingactivity and influence on the paleogeography and stratigraphy of a number of sedimentary sequencesallow to consider the Campillo shear zone as an exceptional example of a continental-scale rectilinearhigh-angle fault zone within the Variscan orogen
