AB Informality is a structural feature of the Mexican labor market of greatquantitative and qualitative importance. However, largely due to the confinementof the population, more than ten millions of informal jobs were lost in the firstmonths of the pandemic. With the reactivation of the economy, a higher rateof informality than before the pandemic was registered at the end of 2021. Inthis article we analyze the evolution of informality during the first year of thepandemic and examine its determinants during this period using a logit model.The analysis illustrates some of the characteristics of the uneven recovery of theMexican labor market, and the features of a phenomenon that is both a socialproblem and a challenge for public policy
AB La informalidad laboral es un rasgo estructural del mercado de trabajomexicano de gran importancia cuantitativa y cualitativa. Debido en buenamedida al confinamiento de la población, durante los primeros meses de lapandemia por Covid-19 en 2020, se perdieron más de 10 millones de empleosinformales. Con la recuperación de la economía a finales del 2021 se registróuna tasa de informalidad más alta que antes de la pandemia. Ante dichocontexto, el presente artículo tiene como objetivo analizar la evolución de lainformalidad durante el primer año de la pandemia, así como los cambios en sus determinantes para dicho periodo mediante un modelo logit. El análisisilustra algunas de las características de la desigual recuperación del mercadode trabajo mexicano y los rasgos de un fenómeno que representa un problemasocial y un reto para las políticas públicas
