T1 The impact of social exclusion into economic growth at the European Union

AB El objetivo de este artículo es verificar que la presencia de pobreza y exclusiónsocial en la Unión Europea supone una limitación que afecta a los nivelesde crecimiento económico, impidiendo alcanzar, no ya el ansiado “crecimientoeconómico integrador” perseguido por las instituciones eurocomunitarias; sinoel crecimiento económico en sí, planteado en términos convencionales. Paraello, tras la fundamentación teórica basada en las ideas de grandes economistascomo Keynes o Myrdal, se analizarán diversos contrastes empíricos realizados,usándose distintos indicadores y en momentos diferentes, verificándosedicha relación. Con unos niveles de pobreza y exclusión social que han crecidoen la UE durante la difícil etapa que estamos atravesando, los resultados deesta investigación pueden resultar de gran interés también para el ámbito dela recomendación de políticas públicas.
AB The aim of this paper is to verify that the presence of poverty and social exclusionat the European Union involves a limitation into the levels of economicgrowth, not only hampering to achieve the desired “inclusive economic growth”pursued by EU institutions, but also conventional economic growth itself. Thus,after theoretical grounds based on the ideas of great economists such as Keynesand Myrdal, it will be analyzed various empirical tests, different indicatorsbeing used and at different times, verifying that relationship. With poverty andsocial exclusion figures increasing at the EU during the difficult times we aregoing through, the results of this research may also be of great interest to thefield of public policy recommendation.
