A1 Rey, Daniel A1 Rubio, Belén A1 Mohamed, K. A1 Bernabeu, Ana M. A1 Vilas, Federico AB The study of the composition and provenance of the sediments from two cores from the Galician continentalshelf (NW of the Iberian Peninsula) based on their textural, geochemical and magnetic properties hasallowed us to reconstruct the paleoclimatic evolution of this region. Based on the temporal framework ofthe identified facies, it was observed that during the Holocene Optimum the continental shelf was undera high-energy regime. The most notable record of this period was a bioclastic lag founded in both cores, which could also be correlated to nearby cores. After the Holocene Optimum, the ongoing marinetransgression favoured deposition of sandy sediments. The following stabilization of the sea-level favouredan increase of continental muddy sediments from the Miño and Duero rivers since the Roman WarmPeriod. On the contrary, this process was negligible in the outer shelf, generating conditions which allowedthe neoformation of glauconitic minerals YR 2008 FD 2008 LK http://hdl.handle.net/10272/8287 UL http://hdl.handle.net/10272/8287 LA spa DS Repositorio Institucional de la Universidad de Huelva RD 30 may 2026
