T1 Analysis of the role of international financial institutions in the financing of tourism

AB En general, se viene asumiendo el potencial del turismo como impulsor deldesarrollo económico. De hecho, los organismos financieros internacionalesfinancian la puesta en marcha de proyectos turísticos con el fin de contribuiral desarrollo económico de los países menos avanzados y, con ello, conseguirsus objetivos de reducción de la pobreza y mejora de la calidad de vida de susgentes. Sin embargo, la realidad es que muchos de estos proyectos no alcanzanlas expectativas generadas. El objetivo de esta investigación es doble: conocerlas principales características de estos organismos y, sobre todo, su papelen la financiación de la actividad turística e identificar el tipo de financiacióncanalizada por estos organismos hacia proyectos de desarrollo turístico, asícomo los principales instrumentos financieros utilizados, los criterios queguían la concesión de la misma e, incluso, su distribución geográfica. Se partedel convencimiento de que estos organismos se equivocan en el tratamientoconcedido al turismo en su financiación, lo que les impide aprovechar todo elpotencial de esta actividad económica para la consecución de sus objetivos.
AB In general, we assume the potential of tourism as an engine of economicdevelopment. In fact, international financial institutions finance theimplementation of tourism projects in order to contribute to the economicdevelopment of less advanced countries and thereby achieve their goals ofreducing poverty and improving the quality of life of people. However, thereality is that many of these projects do not reach expectations. The objectiveof this research is twofold: to know the main characteristics of these organismsand especially their role in the financing of tourism activity and to identifythe type of funding channeled through these agencies to tourism developmentprojects, as well as the main financial instruments used, the criteria that guidegranting the same, and even geographical distribution. We proceed from thebelief that these organisms are wrong in the treatment accorded to tourism inits funding, leaving them unable to realize the full potential of this economicactivity to achieve its objectives.
