AB Primera aproximación arqueológica a los resultados de la intervención realizada entre 2002 y2004 en Santa Maria dei Greci, un edificio religiosode gran interés artístico, cultural y científico en elcentro histórico de Agrigento (Sicilia). Entre otrosaspectos, que analizamos en el marco de nuestraTesis de Doctorado, las excavaciones sacaron a laluz un mundo funerario de gran interés, que abarcauna parte importante del desarrollo diacrónico delconjunto y adopta diversas formas, destacando lagran cripta funeraria de mediados del siglo XVIII,bajo la nave central. Oculta durante mucho tiempo,ofrece un fascinante repertorio de posibilidades ala hora de interpretar su historia, su tipología, lascreencias que motivaron su construcción y los usosallí desarrollados
AB With this contribution we intend to propose areflection on the results of the ongoing investigation,on some interesting findings of great scientificinterest, which came to light between 2002 and2004, during the archaeological excavation workscarried out inside a religious building of greatartistic, cultural and scientific interest, the churchof Sant Mary dei Greci, in the historical centre ofAgrigento (Sicily).The excavation campaign, carried out onan area never before subjected to archaeologicalinvestigation, has achieved results aboveexpectations. In fact, an interesting funeral systemhas come to light, buried for centuries, and untilthen unknown, which occupies the entire space ofthe church
