AB En enero de 2024, la IUGS ratificaba la propuesta de la ComisiónInternacional de Estratigrafía para designar un nuevo EstratotipoGlobal de Límite (GSSP) para la base del piso Telychiense (SistemaSilúrico). Éste reemplaza al GSSP establecido en 1985 en el área tipode la Serie Llandovery al sur de Gales (Gran Bretaña), dados los problemasbioestratigráficos y de correlación detectados con posterioridad,entre ellos una mélange sedimentaria y discontinuidades en lasección. El grupo de trabajo creado en 2014 para estudiar un GSSPsustituto, consideró tres secciones candidatas situadas en Suecia,China y España, pero en 2019 la española quedó como candidataúnica y fue aprobada finalmente, en 2023, por la Subcomisión Internacionalde Estratigrafía del Silúrico (ISSS) y la Comisión Internacionalde Estratigrafía (ICS). La base del piso Telychiense viene definidapor la primera aparición del graptolito cosmopolita Spirograptusguerichi dentro de una sucesión de pizarras negras graptolíticas,continua y sin hiatos, en un nuevo GSSP situado en la orilla nortedel embalse de El Pintado, al oeste de Cazalla de la Sierra (Sevilla). Elpotencial de correlación bioestratigráfica y quimioestratigráfica conotras secciones mundiales fue debidamente acreditado y consta enuna publicación detallada del año 2015
AB In January 2024, the IUGS ratified the proposal of the ICS to designatein southern Spain a replacement GSSP for the base of theTelychian Stage (Silurian System). The previous GSSP for the samestage was established in 1985 in the historical type Llandovery areaof southern Wales (UK), but the significant level of imprecision in itsdefinition for the purposes of high-resolution biostratigraphical correlationand the discovery of a sedimentary mélange demonstratedthat it was not a continuous and adequate section. In 2014, a workinggroup was formed to find a new GSSP. After evaluating sectionsin Sweden, China, and Spain, the section in Spain was chosen asthe sole candidate in 2019. It was officially approved by the ISSS andICS in 2023. The new replacement GSSP is situated on the northernshore of El Pintado Reservoir, west of Cazalla de la Sierra (Sevilleprovince). It is located in a continuous succession of graptolitic blackshales, with the FAD of the cosmopolitan graptolite Spirograptusguerichi chosen as the defining criterion for the base of the TelychianStage. The potential for biostratigraphical and chemostratigraphicalcorrelation with other world sections was clearly demonstrated in adetailed study published in 2015
