T1 Las áreas de incurables del Hospital de la Sangre de Sevilla

AB El hospital de la Sangre de Sevilla fuecreado para atender a mujeres con enfermedadescomunes que no padecieranenfermedades contagiosas ni fuesen incurables.Sus diversos reglamentos –1503,1603, 1624, 1734– prohibieron el accesode incurables al hospital; sin embargo, larealidad se impuso y los libros capitularesrevelaron que este hospital recibió a mujeresy eclesiásticos incurables y de avanzadaedad que esperaban un buen morir física yreligiosa. Este hospital tenía asilos separadossexualmente en los que se acogían incurablesy ancianos, por limosna o previopago. Se debe remarcar que los incurablesno eran agonizantes, sino personas que pordiversos motivos no se valían de sí mismasy cuyas enfermedades sin ser contagiosasno tenían curación.
AB The Blood Hospital of Seville wascreated to care for women with commondiseases who did not suffer contagiousor incurable ones. Its various regulations–1503, 1603, 1624, 1734– prohibited theadmission of incurable women to the hospital,but reality set in and Hospital recordsshow that it received both the elderly of theChurch and women of advanced age. Thehospital had asylums separated by sex, andthe incurable and elderly were cared for,either through alms or payment. It is necessaryto highlight that the incurable patientswere not agonizing, but rather werepersons who for diverse reasons could notcare for themselves, and whose diseases,though not contagious, were incurable.
