T1 Salvador de Madariaga y John B. Trend, catedráticos en Oxford y Cambridge: un puente cultural entre España y Reino Unido

Antes de llegara la cátedra ambos autores manteníanuna estrecha relación con la culturadel país amigo, relación que la vidaacadémica contribuyó a acrecentar. Elpresente artículo trata de ahondar en estevínculo y de mostrar la importante labordesempeñada por estos dos intelectualescomo puente cultural entre Reino Unidoy España durante las primeras décadas delsiglo XX
AB Oxford University created the firstchair of Spanish Language and Literaturein 1927; Cambridge University, six yearslater, in 1933. Their first occupants were,respectively, the Spanish writer Salvador deMadariaga and the English musicologistand hispanist John B. Trend. Beforereaching the chair both authors maintaineda close relationship with the culture ofthe friendly country, a relationship thatacademic life contributed to strengthen.This article tries to delve into this link andto show the important work carried out bythese two intellectuals, acting as a culturalbridge between the United Kingdomand Spain during the first decades of thetwentieth century
