AB Merced a un singular poema francés,cuyos orígenes siguen siendo oscuros,el rey Tudor Enrique VII se transformóen 1497 en un segundo Hércules y partede su biografía, en una sucesión de docetrabajos mitológicos. Desde luego, Enriqueaparecía descrito con harta complacencia,aventajando a su modelo grecorromano yderribando a peores adversarios que monstruosde la Antigüedad.Por desgracia, esta pretenciosa y lúdicaobra daba a entender al lector que la tareano se había llevado totalmente a buen términoy que el usurpador, pese a toda sugallardía y virtud, apenas lograba amilanara sus enemigos ni a ganarse el corazón desus súbditos. ¿De aquí, quizás, el malogrofinal de esta asombrosa biografía heroica?
AB Thanks to a singular French poem,whose origins remain obscure, the Tudorking Henry VII was turned in 1497 into asecond Hercules, and part of his biographythus became a succession of twelve mythologicallabours. Henry was complacentlyshown as surpassing his Greco-Romanmodel and as slaying opponents who wereworse than the monsters of antiquity.Unfortunately, the pedantic and playfulwork led its reader to understand thatthe task was not successfully finished, andthat the usurper, in spite of all his braveryand virtue, could hardly discourage his enemies,or even win the hearts of his subjects.Hence, perhaps, the final failure ofthat amazing heroic biography?
