RT Journal Article T1 New Geological Evidence of the 1755 Lisbon Tsunami from the Rock of Gibraltar (Southern Iberian Peninsula) A1 Ruiz Muñoz, Francisco A1 González-Regalado Montero, María Luz A1 Rodríguez Vidal, Joaquín A1 Cáceres Puro, Luis Miguel A1 Tosquella Angrill, Josep A1 Toscano Grande, Antonio A1 Arroyo Serrano, Marta AB This paper presents the easternmost mineralogical and geochemical evidence of the 1755Lisbon tsunami found in the Western Mediterranean. This multidisciplinary analysis of a sedimentcore obtained in Gibraltar (southern Iberian Peninsula) has allowed us to differentiate a tsunamiitefrom an old lagoon (The Inundation). This tsunamigenic layer has increased levels of calcite andaragonite and higher concentrations of Ba and ferromagnesian elements in comparison with theunderlying lagoonal sediments of this core. This layer is also differentiated by its paleontologicalrecord, with the introduction of marine species within this lagoon. The uppermost part of the coreincludes a transition from swampy/marsh paleoenvironments to terrestrial scenarios, with a finalanthropogenic filling occurring during the last century PB MDPI SN 2075-163X (electrónico) YR 2021 FD 2021 LK http://hdl.handle.net/10272/20343 UL http://hdl.handle.net/10272/20343 LA eng NO Ruiz, F., Pozo, M., González-Regalado, M.
