RT Journal Article T1 Proposal of New Strategies for Smart Tourism Destinations in the Challenging New Reality: A Commitment to the Technology–Sustainability Binomial A1 García Revilla, Mercedes Raquel A1 Perogil Burgos, Javier A1 Einsle, Carmen Sarah A1 Martinez Moure, Olga AB This paper aimed to investigate the response of smart tourism destinations (STDs) tothe COVID-19 crisis, specifically regarding sustainability, which—along with information, newtechnologies, and governance—is a key element of STDs. First, we conducted a brief literaturereview regarding tourism sustainability. Secondly, we performed a case study of several STDs todetermine the sustainable actions implemented in response to the current crisis, the results of whichare presented in this paper. Thirdly, we assessed these STDs’ primary sustainability actions anddeveloped a strategy proposal that can be followed by destinations in similar situations. This proposalis intended to be evaluated by the studied STDs for validation or adaptation. Far from a definitivesolution, our proposal was designed as one possible tool to avoid the disorganisation and uncertaintysuffered in crisis situations such as the COVID-19 pandemic PB MDPI SN 2071-1050 (electrónico) YR 2022 FD 2022 LK http://hdl.handle.net/10272/20903 UL http://hdl.handle.net/10272/20903 LA eng NO García Revilla, M.
