T1 Intercultural mediation in schools : a practice under development

AB Estas últimas décadas han estado caracterizadaspor cambios sociales importantes, debido fundamentalmentea las migraciones y a la globalización. Estoscambios, no siempre han sido entendidos como positivospor los ciudadanos de acogida, provocando sentimientosde rechazo y racismo frente al “otro”. Parahacer frente a esta situación social, necesitamos de laayuda de profesionales que nos ayuden a reconstruirlos esquemas sociales que identifican las relacionespersonales desde la interculturalidad, encontrandocomo profesionales emergentes a los y las mediadorasinterculturales. En este artículo, se presentan lasprimeras evidencias del estudio de caso que estamosllevando a cabo con una mediadora, definiendo la importanciade la mediación intercultural en diferentesámbitos sociales: sanitario, familiar y comunitario; yprofundizando en la acción mediadora en el ámbitoeducativo, como aspecto básico para el desarrollo deuna real educación intercultural, reflexionando sobrediferentes factores que favorecen o inhiben la prácticamediadora.
AB The last decades have been characterized byimportant social changes, mainly due to migrationand globalization. These changes have not alwaysbeen positive, causing feelings of rejection andracism against the “other one”. To deal with thissituation we need professionals who could help us inrebuilding the social schemes that identify personalrelationships: the intercultural mediators. In thisarticle, we highlight the importance of interculturalmediation in different areas - health, communityand social ones – and then we focus in the field ofeducation, as main aim of our investigation. Thispaper finally points out the key elements influencingthe development of this practice, clarifying, at thesame time, the ones inhibiting it.
