two different commands and intentions: to narrate the life and battles of Francis Drake (Draque) and to, digressively,
paint the analogous defeat suffered by another famous corsair: Richard Hawkins (Ricardo Áquines). Lope
pasted together these materials in a structure of coherent dispositio whose digressions rest on an essential literary
resource: a courtesan narrator who explicitly reflects on his art.},
