T1 Vida, muerte y parálisis en Pedro Páramo de Juan Rulfo y "The dead" de James Joyce

AB This article explores the similarities between the literary productionof Juan Rulfo and James Joyce as regards their special treatment of thethemes of life and death. Although this treatment constitutes a majorconcern throughout their writings, the article concentrates on a closecomparative reading of Pedro Páramo and "The Dead". In these texts,both writers coincide in their attempt to (con)fuse life and death as two"states of being" creating an atmosphere where death suffocates the lifeof the inhabitants of Comala and Dublin, the cities to become, in turn,two centres of paralysis.
AB Este artículo explora las similitudes entre la producción literaria de Juan Rulfo y James Joyce, en lo respecto a su tratamiento especial de los temas de la vida y la muerte. Aunque esta distinción constituye una gran preocupación en sus escrituras, este artículo se centra en una lectura comparativa de Pedro Páramo y “Los muertos”. En estos textos, ambos escritores coinciden en su intento de fusionar vida y muerte como “dos estados del ser”, creando una atmósfera donde la muerte ahoga las vidas de los habitantes de Comala y Dublin, las ciudades que se convertirán, a cambio, en dos centros de parálisis.
