RT Conference Proceedings T1 A bright fireball witnessed on august, 17, 2011 over the Iberian Peninsula A1 Docobo, José A. A1 Madiedo Gil, José María A1 Trigo Rodríguez, Josep María AB The detailed study of bright fireballevents is one of the aims of the SPanish Meteor Net-work (SPMN), as these allowus to collect very valu-able information on the origin of the relatively raremeteorite-dropping bolides. In this context, a verybright fireball (at least mag. -12) was observed overthe Iberian Peninsula during the evening twilight ofAugust 17, 2011. However, unfavourable weatherconditions in most of the regions where our meteorobserving stations were working did not allow us torecord any video or image of this fireball. Fortunately, because of excellent weather over Galicia and otherareas in northwest Spain, the observation of this eventwas very favourable for numerous visual witnessesthat could account for it. These were interviewed by ateam belonging to theRamón María Aller Astronomi-cal Observatory(OARMA). This made possible a reli-able reconstruction of the fireball trajectory in a sys-tematic way as made in previous events [see e.g. 3].We present here the preliminary analysis of this event. The data provided by the eyewitnesses reveal that, infact, this could have been a meteorite-dropping fire-ball, although the meteorite would have landed on theAtlantic Ocean YR 2012 FD 2012 LK http://hdl.handle.net/10272/9023 UL http://hdl.handle.net/10272/9023 LA eng NO Docobo, J.A., Madiedo Gil, J.M., Trigo Rodríguez, J.M.: "A bright fireball witnessed on august, 17, 2011 over the Iberian Peninsula".
