AB El objetivo de este artículo es la revisión de la figura de Augusto César Sandino ysu impacto sociopolítico en la opinión pública española. Partiendo de un análisis de los acontecimientosque impulsaron la figura del líder guerrillero a la escena internacional, examinaremos larepercusión de sus actuaciones dentro de una coyuntura intervencionista como la planteada por losEstados Unidos en Centroamérica y el Caribe en las primeras décadas del xx, al igual que la reacciónde los países hispanohablantes respecto a las injerencias de Washington. Será a partir de dichocontexto que abordaremos la repercusión de Sandino en la intelectualidad y medios peninsulares,tomando como referencia diarios de todo el arco ideológico para confirmar cómo, aun desde perspectivasdiferenciadas —y en un marco temporal de apenas siete años— el nicaragüense acabaríaconvertido en un icono compartido, pero de disímil significación.
AB The objective of this article is the revision of the figure of Augusto César Sandinoand its sociopolitical impact on the Spanish public opinion. Starting from an analysis of the eventsthat drove the figure of the guerrilla leader to the international arena, we will examine the impactof his actions within an interventionist moment as posed by the United States in Central Americaand the Caribbean in the first decades of the Twentieth century, as well as the reaction of the Spanish-speaking countries regarding the interference of Washington. It will be from the above mentionedcontext that the repercussion of Sandino on the intellectuality and peninsular media will beaddressed, taking as reference the newspapers of the entire ideological arch to confirm how, evenfrom different perspectives —and within a timeframe of just seven years— the Nicaraguan wouldeventually become a shared icon, but of dissimilar significance.
