AB El VIH/SIDA ha afectado y sigue afectando a millones de niños en todo el mundo,pero sobre todo en el África Subsahariana. Además de sus gravísimos efectos sobre lasalud, esta enfermedad suele conllevar la discriminación de quienes la padecen y lavulneración de algunos de sus derechos fundamentales. Diversos organismos y agenciasinternacionales desarrollan, desde hace años, programas para difundir la terapia, prevenirnuevos contagios y combatir el estigma y la exclusión. La mayoría de estos programaspropone acciones globales de carácter social y educativo. Una fuente de gran valor paraorientarlos y adaptarlos localmente, es la experiencia vital de quienes viven con el VIH,recogida a través de sus narrativas biográficas. Como ejemplo de ello, este artículo presenta algunos de los resultados de una reciente investigación sobre niños y adolescentesespañoles con VIH.
AB HIV/AIDS has affected and continues to affect millions of children around theworld, especially in sub-Saharan Africa. In addition to its very serious health effects, thedisease often leads to discrimination against those who suffer from it, including theviolation of some of their most fundamental rights. A wide array of internationalorganizations and agencies has for years developed programs intended to disseminatetherapies, to prevent new infections and to combat the stigma and exclusion associated withthe disease. Most of these programs propose social and educational global actions. Avaluable resource to guide and adapt these programs to local conditions is attaining andunderstanding of the life experiences of people living with HIV, collected throughbiographical narratives. As an example of the utility of this approach, this paper presentssome results of recent research on Spanish children and adolescents with HIV.
