AB A composite stratigraphic section in Crevillente (eastern Betic Cordillera) is studied. It represent a complete stratigraphical and paleontological record of the Messinian and Lower Pliocene. Two discontinuity surfaces related to the Mediterranean salinity crisis are analysed: a intra-messinian surface which coincides with a sea-level fall leading to the emergence of this area far from marine influences; and an uppermost Messinian unconformity, with strong erosionaI character, overlied by marine Lower Pliocene transgressive deposits
