T1 Ovid, Naugerius and We, or : how to create a text

AB Andreas Naugerius (1483-1529), ilustre embajador veneciano,soldado, humanista y poeta, publicó en 1515 una edición de las obrascompletas de Ovidio, conocida como la 'Segunda Aldina', que fue condiferencia la mejor de las primeras ediciones del poeta. Permaneciócomo texto de referencia durante los dos siglos siguientes, hasta queN. Heinsius publicó una todavía mejor, basada en muchos másmanuscritos. Las anotaciones y el texto de Naugerius (es decir, suaparato crítico) fueron publicados en la magnífica edición de susOpera Omnia, Padua, 1718, y contienen lecturas hoy día olvidadas ymuchas conjeturas que casi siempre son valiosas o al menos hacenreferencia a un problema textual resuelto después por humanistascomo Gronovius y Heinsius. Este artículo, basado en una conferenciadictada en la Universidad de Huelva, se ocupa del texto de losCarmina amat')ria, incluidas las Heroidum Epistulae.__________________________________Andreas Naugerius (1483-1529), the distinguished Venetianambassador, soldier, scholar and poet, produced in 1515 an edition ofOvid's complete works, known as the Second Aldina, which was by farthe best among the early editions of the poet. It remained theauthoritative text for the next two centuries or so, until N. Heinsiusproduced an even better one, based on many more manuscripts.Naugerius' notes on his text (his critical apparatus, so to speak) werepublished in the beautiful edition of his Opera Omnia,Padua,1718. They contain readings that are forgotten today and manyof his conjectures which are almost always valuable or at least point toa textual problem which was solved later by scholars like Gronovius orHeinsius. This paper, based on a lecture delivered at the University ofHuelva, deals with the text of the Carmina Amatoria, including theHeroidum Epistulae.
