AB Se plantean algunas cuestiones sobre la construcciónde fronteras y límites en el contexto dela Cuenca Baja del Guadiana entre finales del sigloIII a.C. y el siglo I d.C., y sobre los problemas deanálisis de las fuentes clásicas (Polibio, Artemidoro,Estrabón, Mela, Plinio, etc.), especialmente cuandomencionan el río como marcador territorial. Laimagen transmitida por estas fuentes no se reflejaen el registro arqueológico y epigráfico: desde estaperspectiva, los datos revelan la posible formaciónde realidades multiculturales que caracterizan losespacios fronterizos, especialmente, en oppidacomo Myrtilis. Este estudio requiere una metodologíacomparativa que puede llevar a una mejorcomprensión de los procesos de formación de fronterasterritoriales y simbólicas en el Bajo Guadianaentre Baesuris (Castro Marim) y Myrtilis (Mértola)
AB The aim of this paper is to present somequestions about the construction of boundariesin the particular case of the Low Guadiana Valleybetween the end of 3rd Century BC and the 1stCentury AD, as well as the problems associatedwith the analysis of the classical texts (Polybius,Artemidorus, Strabo, Mela, Pliny the Elder, etc.),especially when they use the river as a territorialmarker. The image transmitted by these sourcesdoes not have a clear reflection on the epigraphicaland archaeological record: in this perspective, thedata reveal the possible formation of multiculturalrealities which characterizes the frontier spaces,especially in oppida like Myrtilis. This studyrequires a comparative methodology that shouldlead us to a better understanding of the processes ofthe formation of territorial and symbolic boundariesalong the Low Guadiana Valley between Baesuris(Castro Marim) and Myrtilis (Mértola)
