RT Journal Article T1 Estructura profunda de la Cuenca del Mar de Alborán: margen continental nororiental y zona de transición hacia la cuenca Surbalear T1 Crustal structure of the Alboran Sea Basin: northeastern continental margin and transition zone to the Southbalearic basin A1 Vázquez Garrido, Juan Tomás A1 Vegas, Ramón AB The Alboran Sea is an extensional basin placed on thinned continental crust and sitted in a regional compressive context. Deep seismic reflection and industrial multichannel seismic reflection profiles show two major seismic units in the northeastern continental margin of the Alboran Sea, and the transition zone towards the Southbalearic Basin. These units have been defined by means of seismic fabric characterization and correspond to the sedimentary and basement units of the basin. The basement of the Alboran Sea Basin corresponds to the upper crust under the Betics Cordillera and eastwards presents a transition to an oceanic crust. The major tectonics structures are normal faults. The ultimate N 4 0 W convergence between Africa and Iberia produced at least three different orders of inversion structures.
