AB En el presente artículo se exponen los rasgos esenciales de lascuatro grandes escuelas clásicas del sunismo. Tras un análisis inicial delas principales doctrina del Islam, se estudian los conceptos esencialesque definen el sunismo, desde el punto de vista jurídico, como lasharî`ao elfiqh. En último lugar, tras contraponer las opiniones diversas de lospartidarios de la libre opinión frente a los tradicionalistas, se defiende lanecesidad de desarrollar un sentido más moderno del concepto de inter-pretación jurídica como herramienta necesaria de modernización de lossistemas jurídicos islámicos.
AB This work surveys the essential traits of the classic four biggestschools of Sunni Islam. After an initial analysis of the main Islamic doc-trines, we proceed to study the fundamental legal criteria that defineSunni Islam, likeshariaorfiqh. The diverse points of view of the sup-porters of the Freedom of thought are also put in contrast with those ofthe traditionalist scholars and, as a conclusion, we advocate to developa more contemporary meaning of the notion of legal interpretation as anecessary tool for modernizing the Islamic legal systems
