T1 Cenozoic deformation of the Iberian lithosphere: Spanish Central System and Duero and Tajo Basins

AB The Cenozoic deformation of the Iberian lithosphere along a NW-SE profile from the northern Duero Basinto the southern Tajo Basin, crossing Spanish Central System, has been analysed by means of a numericalsimulation based in the finite element method. Lateral and vertical rheological heterogeneities, Tertiarysedimentary overburden and the Alpine compressional tectonic stresses have been considered. Numericalresults support a mechanism of lithospheric folding for the development of the chain and basins and athicker lower crust below the central part of Iberia
