T1 The Social legitimacy of golf tourism : an application to the golf courses of Andalusia

AB Today, respect for the natural environmental is a variable that plays an important role when it comes to configuring a tourist destination or product, particularly since this is an industry for which the location is irrevocably fixed. Andalusia, in particular, has become well-established as a major golf tourism destination. It has more golf courses than any other of the 17 Spanish Autonomous Regions. This has stimulated a debate on the environmental impacts of sporting facilities of this type, with attention consequently focused on the need of these tourism companies to achieve and maintain social legitimacy. In the work described here, the Partial Least Squares (PLS) technique is applied to analyse the impact of the institutional context on the implementation of environmental practices and the achievement of social legitimacy by these organisations.
AB Hoy en día, el respeto por la naturaleza es una variable que juega un papel importante en lo referente a la configuración de destinos o productos turísticos, particularmente desde que esta es una industria en la que la localización es fijada irrevocablemente. Andalucía, en particular, se ha consolidado como un importante destino turístico de golf. Tiene mas campos de golf que cualquier otra de las otras 17 Comunidades Autónomas españolas. Esto ha estimulado un debate sobre el impacto medio ambiental de las instalaciones deportivas de este tipo, consecuentemente centrando su atención en la necesidad de estas empresas de turismo de lograr y mantener una legitimidad social. En el trabajo aquí descrito, la técnica Partial Least Squares (PLS) es aplicada para analizar el impacto del contexto institucional en la implementación de prácticas medioambientales y el logro de una legitimidad social por parte de estas organizaciones.
