T1 Anglophone hegemony in tourims studie today

AB Building on a recent co-edited work (Dann and Liebman Parrinello,2009), this account seeks to demonstrate that tourism studies as a fieldhas been unjustifiably dominated by English speakers. The point isillustrated firstly in terms of its four major theories that claim to have theirorigin in the Anglophone world of the 70s in spite of the realisation thatthey had their antecedents in Continental Europe of the 30s. Objectivestatistical measures from the electronic files of the Centre Internationalde Recherches et d’Études Touristiques (International Centre for TourismStudies and Research) (CIRET) are then provided in order to reconfirmthis linguistic dominance. These include recent data that relate toresearchers, research centres, book publishers and journals. Finally abrief complementary analysis is undertaken of the subjective dimensionof such hegemony by examining the phenomenon of self-reflexivity in a number of leading tourism scholars
AB Sobre la base de un trabajo recientemente coeditado (Dann and Liebman Parrinello, 2009), este informe busca demostrar que los estudios sobre turismo como campo ha sido injustificablemente dominado por hablantes de lengua inglesa. Este punto es ilustrado primer lugar en términos de sus cuatro mayores teorías que afirman tener su origen en el mundo anglófono de los años 70 a pesar del hecho de que tenían sus antecedentes en la Europa Continental de los años 30. Objetivas medidas estadísticas de los archivos electrónicos de el Centro Internacional de Investigación y de estudios turísticos (CIRET) son después añadidas para reconfirmar esta dominancia lingüística. Estas incluyen datos recientes que se relacionan con los investigadores, centros de investigación, libros publicados y revistas. Finalmente, un breve análisis complementario es abordado de la dimensión subjetiva de tal hegemonía mediante el examen de el fenómeno de auto reflexividad en una serie de destacados estudios de turismo.
