AB La correcta medición del hambre es clave para orientar las políticasadecuadas que ayuden a su erradicación. Es importante diseñar medidas quecontribuyan a alcanzar dicha finalidad y que permitan el establecimiento deprioridades por parte de los organismos competentes, tanto nacionales comosupranacionales. En este trabajo se diseña un índice para medir la incidenciadel hambre con la misma información que la utilizada por el Índice Globaldel Hambre (IGH). El índice propuesto categoriza previamente cada uno delos indicadores estadísticos del IGH según su pertenencia a uno de los cinconiveles en los que dicho índice clasifica la intensidad del hambre, penalizandola pertenencia a las categorías de mayor intensidad. Esta categorización es suprincipal novedad, al aceptar que la realidad del hambre es lo suficientementeimportante como para enfatizar la peor de las situaciones reveladas por lostres indicadores individuales que lo definen.
AB The correct measure of the hunger is a key for orientating the suitablepolicies for its eradication. It is important to design measures that help to reachthis purpose. That allows the establishment of priorities by the competent,national and international, organisms. A global index for the measurement ofthe hunger is presented in this work. The index uses the same informationas the Global Index of the Hunger (IGH). Nevertheless, the proposed index isbased in a different concept. The countries have been previously categorizedattending to the belonging of each one of the three statistical indicators of theIGH in one of the five levels in which the hunger intensity classifies, penalizingthe belonging to the categories of major intensity of hunger. This categorizationis its principal innovation, accepting that the reality of the hunger is importantenough to emphasize the worst of the situations revealed by the three individualindicators that define the index.
