T1 Mud flows in the eastern slope of the Central Andes (Calchaqui Valleys), Argentina

AB The eastern slope of the Central Andes is an interesting geological observatory for the study of mass movements. Giant land-slides, mud-flows, debris-flows and flash-floods occur frequently. During the austral summer season (December to March), Calchaqui Valleys are the theatre of several mud-flows. We have also evidences of several phenomena in the historical time. We report here two localities with past mass movements (San Lucas and Santa Rosa). These localities constitute a site for potential geological hazard mainly during the ENSO (El Niño/ La Niña) years
