RT Journal Article T1 Caracterización geológica de los afloramientos de El Pimpollar, extremo nororiental de la Zona Surportuguesa T1 Geological characterization of "El Pimpollar" colcanic and sedimentary rocks, northeastern sector of the South-Portuguese Zone, Spain A1 Díez Montes, Alejandro A1 Bellido Mulas, F. A1 Cózar, Pedro A1 Monteserín, V. AB Two volcanic units can be distinguished in the “El Pimpollar” outcrop (eastern South-Portuguese Zone). The Lower Unit is composed mainly of submarine dacites and andesites, with some subordinated basaltsand trachyandesites. The Upper Unit is composed of massive rhyolites, with volcano-sedimentary andvolcanoclastic deposits towards the base.Radiolaritic sediments interbeded with the andesites and dacites show that these volcanic rocks extrudedin a relatively deep marine basin. The upper part and top of the Lower Volcanit Unit includes some diamictic layers related with masstransportprocesses. Some of these diamictic layers contain limestone pebbles and blocks with middleVisean microfossils. These sedimentary deposits mark possibly the beginning of a tectonic event that wasresponsible for the destruction of a carbonate platform, and for severe changes in the tecto-sedimentaryenvironment YR 2006 FD 2006 LK http://hdl.handle.net/10272/8552 UL http://hdl.handle.net/10272/8552 LA spa DS Repositorio Institucional de la Universidad de Huelva RD 30 may 2026
