AB A partir de fuentes bíblicas como Ezequiely el Apocalipsis de Juan, desde el sigloIV se pretendió identificara la prole delAnticristo –los pueblos encabezados porGog y Magog– con los godos que atacabanel Imperio Romano, que a su vez habíansido asimilados con los más antiguos getasy escitas. En estas páginas acometemos elanálisis de las fuentes en las que está presente esa identificación, que tenía el sentido de anunciar que el final de los tiempoprofetizado en el Apocalipsis ya estabaallí y se acercaba de la mano de los godos;y de igual modo, estudiaremos las causasde esas identificaciones con getas y escitas.Asimismo, advertiremos otras perspectivassobre esa misma visión antigua a lo largode la Edad Media y en diferentes zonas deEuropa, que contribuyeron a agravar unya confuso panorama de identidades deregiones y pueblos antiguos y medievales,míticos y reales
AB Beginning with Bible sources like Ezekieland the Book of Revelation of John,fron the 4th Century the offspring of theAntichrist –the peoples led by Gog andMagog- was identified with the Gothswho attacked the Roman Empire, who inturn had been assimilated with the ancientGetae and Scythian. On these pages weundertake the analysis of the sources wherethat identification is present, with the mea-ning of announcing that the end of timesprophesied in the Book of Revelation wasalready there, approaching hand in handwith the Goths; and similarly, we will stu-dy the causes of those identifications. Wealso draw other perspectives on the sameold vision throughout the Middle Ages andin different areas of Europe, perspectivesthat contributed to aggravate an alreadyconfusing overview of ancient and medieval,mythical and real regions and peoples
