AB In the last two decades, the great technological advances sweeping society have madeinroads into the educational sphere. The use of information and communicationtechnology and social networks has opened up new possibilities for student learning,which require appropriate treatment by family and teachers. This quantitative studytakes a new approach to investigating the relationship between Spanish teenagestudents’ academic success and their use of technology and social networks. Itanalyses data published in the 2018 PISA report to assess whether the use of theseresources is appropriate, and to determine their impact on students’ learning andperformance in reading, mathematics and science. The study takes a new approachin terms of the variables selected and the analysis of the data through two statisticalmeasures. The results suggest that excessive use of technology and social networks,both during the week and at weekends, impairs performance. This finding is moreacute in the case of male students, as the data indicates that they start at an earlier ageand are more likely to use social media for the detrimental activity of online gaming.
AB En las últimas dos décadas, los grandes avances tecnológicos que azotan a la sociedad han hecho incursiones en el ámbito educativo. El uso de la información y la comunicación.la tecnología y las redes sociales ha abierto nuevas posibilidades para el aprendizaje de los estudiantes, que requieren un trato adecuado por parte de la familia y los docentes. Este estudio cuantitativo adopta un nuevo enfoque para investigar la relación entre adolescentes españolesel éxito académico de los estudiantes y su uso de la tecnología y las redes sociales. Esoanaliza los datos publicados en el informe PISA 2018 para evaluar si el uso de estosrecursos es apropiado, y para determinar su impacto en el aprendizaje de los estudiantes yrendimiento en lectura, matemáticas y ciencias. El estudio adopta un nuevo enfoque.en cuanto a las variables seleccionadas y el análisis de los datos a través de dos estadísticasmedidas. Los resultados sugieren que el uso excesivo de la tecnología y las redes sociales,tanto durante la semana como los fines de semana, perjudica el rendimiento. Este hallazgo es más aguda en el caso de los estudiantes varones, ya que los datos indican que comienzan a una edad más temprana y es más probable que usen las redes sociales para la actividad perjudicial de los juegos en línea.
