RT Journal Article T1 The Role of Telematic Practices in Computer Engineering: a Low-Cost Remote Power Control in a Network Lab A1 Mateo Sanguino, Tomás Jesús A1 López García, Diego Antonio A1 Cortés Ancos, Estefanía AB The present paper describes a practical solutionof e-learning laboratory devoted to the study of computernetworks. This laboratory has been proven with two groupsof students from the University of Huelva (Spain) duringtwo academic years. In order to achieve this objective, it hasbeen necessary to create an entire network infrastructurethat includes both the telematic access to the laboratoryequipment and the remote power control. The interest ofthis work lies in an economical and simple system of remotecontrol and telematic access with a twofold objective. On theone hand, to develop distance practices with attendanceappearance by means of real hardware systems, notsimulated. On the other hand, to reduce the powerconsumption regarding other proposals of remote labs withpermanent power connection, providing herein an ondemand connection only when required. As a result, aversatile and flexible laboratory has been put into practicewhose basic network topology allows transferringtraditional practices to telematic practices in a natural wayand without harsh changes.
