T1 Nuevas realidades laborales en América Latina

AB El desafío más importante que enfrentan las economías latinoamericanas es el de la pobreza. Según el criterio que se emplee para definir a los pobres, existen diversas estimaciones sobre la magnitud del problema. Si son considerados como tales a las personas que viven con menos de un dólar a paridad de poder de compra diario a precios de 1993, en 1998 el 15,6 por ciento de la población de Ámerica Latina y del Caribe era pobre, porcentaje que equivalía a 78,2 millones de personas y que no se han reducido desde fines de los ochenta. La resolución de este problema pasa, en primer lugar, por la generación de empleos formales. Por ello, el primer objetivo de este trabajo es presentar la magnitud de los desafíos que en materia de generación de empleos está enfrentando la región en la ctualidad y a los que hará frente en las décadas que siguen._________________________________The most important change that Latin American economiesface is the poverty. According to it, the first objective of this paper is to present the magnitudeof the changes that those countries are facing at the present time as regards generationof employments and to those that they will make face in a future.
