AB En el Discorso del lattare i figliuoli dalle madri (1542) el humanistaitaliano Sperone Speroni aborda un tema de interés en el Renacimiento: si lasmujeres deben amamantar a sus hijos o dejarlos en manos de una ama de cría.Se parte del análisis de este texto y se confronta con los de otros humanistasdel siglo XIV –Francesco de Barbaro y Leon Battista Alberti– y del XV –fundamentalmente Erasmo de Rotterdam, pero también Juan Luis Vives, Fray Luisde León, Pedro de Luján y Antonio de Guevara– para poder entender que ladefensa de la lactancia materna es uno de los elementos clave del nuevo concepto de familia y de madre en la sociedad moderna
AB In the Discorso del lattare i figliuoli dalle madri (1542) the Italianhumanist Sperone Speroni approaches a topic of interest in the Renaissance:whether women should breastfeed their own children or leave them in the careof a nurse. The analysis of this text is confronted with those of other humanistsof the 14th century –Francesco de Barbaro and Leon Battista Alberti– and ofthe 15th century –mainly Erasmus of Rotterdam, but also Juan Luis Vives, FrayLuis de León, Pedro de Luján and Antonio de Guevara– in order to understandhow the defense of breastfeeding is one of the key elements of the new conceptof family and mother in modern society
