AB El poblamiento de las comarcas campiñesasdel suroeste peninsular ibérico se caracteriza poruna larga diacronía sustentada en dos factoresprincipales, la bonanza climática y la alta capacidadagrológica de los suelos. Buen ejemplo de ello esel asentamiento de Tejada, situado en la actualprovincia de Huelva, y ocupado desde momentosprotohistóricos hasta inicios de la edad moderna.Su importancia durante la época romana e islámica,evidenciada por su carácter urbano, contrastan conun paulatino declive que, tras un último momentode florecimiento después de la conquista y laposterior repoblación cristianas, cristalizará en suabandono a comienzos del siglo XVI, en favor deotras poblaciones circundantes, tal y como revelanlas fuentes textuales, cartográficas y arqueológicas.Su secuencia ocupacional puede servir de modelopara valorar el tipo de poblamiento de carácterurbano y rural entre la margen derecha del ríoGuadalquivir y la costa de Huelva en un típicopaisaje andaluz de campiña.
AB The countryside’s settlement in the southwestof the Iberian peninsula is characterised by a longdiachronic process, based on two main factors:the favourable climate and the high agrologicalcapacity of the soils. A good example of this is thesettlement of Tejada, located in the area of Huelva,and occupied from protohistoric times until thebeginning of the modern era. Its importance duringthe Roman and Islamic periods, evidenced by itsurban character, contrasts with a gradual declinewhich, after a final period of flourishing after theChristian conquest and subsequent repopulation,crystallised in its abandonment at the beginning ofthe 16th century, in favour of other surroundingtowns, as revealed by textual, cartographic andarchaeological sources. Its occupational sequencecan serve as a model for assessing the type of urbanand rural settlement between the right bank of theRiver Guadalquivir and the coast of Huelva in atypical Andalusian countryside landscape.
