AB Con motivo del centenario de la muerte del geólogo francés Robert Douvillé(1881-1914) en el campo de batalla durante la Primera Guerra Mundial,se presenta una breve revisión de su vida y obra a modo de homenaje.Aunquemurió muy joven, su obra es importante en cuanto al desarrollo del conocimientode la geología de la Cordillera Bética y de la Paleontología deammonoideos y microfósiles. Douvillé presentó su magnífica Tesis Doctoralen 1906 en la Universidad de París. En ella trataba sobre la geología regionalde un área geológicamente muy poco conocida, las inmediaciones deJaén. Sus interesantes descubrimientos acerca de la estratigrafía, paleontologíay tectónica de la zona fueron fundamentales para posteriores investigaciones,que en muchos casos corroboraron la precisión y calidad de susobservaciones. Fue además un gran paleontólogo que estudió abundantesespecies fósiles principalmente ammonites, lepydocyclinas y nummulites, describiendonuevos géneros y especies, principalmente de Francia, pero tambiénde otras partes de Europa, América y África
AB On the occasion of the centenary of the kill during the First World Warof the French geologist Robert Douvillé (1881-1914) a short review about hislife and work is presented to pay homage. Despite his early death his workwas very important for the knowledge of the Betic Cordillera and the ammonoidand microfossil paleontology. Douvillé presented his splendid PhDabout the Subbetic in 1906 in the Paris University. In his Thesis he analyzedthe regional geology of a region to the south of Jaén in which the previousknowledge was very scarce or nonexistent. He interpreted the tectonic structure,recognizing, for the first time, the existence of allochthonous nappes.His important discoveries about the stratigraphy, paleontology and tectonicof these areas were the important foundation for later research. Robert Douvilléwas also a great paleontologist specialized mainly in the study of ammonoids,lepydocyclines and nummulites, describing new genera and species,mainly from France, but also from other parts of Europe,America and Africa
