RT Journal Article T1 Tectónica de inversión en la Playa de Sopelana (Arco Vasco, Pirineos occidentales) T1 Inversion tectonics in the Sopelana Beach (Basque Arc, Western Pyrenees) A1 Rodríguez, Lidia A1 Esteban, José Julián A1 Vegas, Néstor A1 Cuevas, Julia AB This work analyzes the structural features of the Sopelana Fault, developed in extensional conditionsduring Cretaceous and Tertiary times, and inverted during the Alpine orogeny. The study area is located onthe NE limb of the Biscay Synclinorium, a major structure in the Basque Arc. The Sopelana Fault boundsthe northern outcrops of the Cenozoic materials in the Biscay Synclinorium. The structural analysis indicatesthat the inversion process related to the Alpine shortening generates folds verging towards the North andreverse faults, sometimes with a minor strike-slip component of movement. Kinematic criteria along theSopelana Fault indicate a top to the NE shear sense, consistent with the regional compression direction, approximately NE-SW in the western area of the Basque Arc. The normal component of the Sopelana Faultwas not fully recovered after the tectonic inversion that preserves younger materials of Upper Cretaceousand Tertiary times in the hanging-wall block, marked by evaporitic rocks YR 2008 FD 2008 LK http://hdl.handle.net/10272/8201 UL http://hdl.handle.net/10272/8201 LA spa DS Repositorio Institucional de la Universidad de Huelva RD 29 may 2026
