AB This essay establishes a cultural bridge between Modernism andPostmodernism by focusing on the use of the motif of the mythic circlein Anglo-American and Hispanic writing, the latter from Spain and LatinAmerica. Beginning with analysis of Faulkner's The Sound and the Fury,the essay examines the symbology of the circle in Anglo-AmericanModernism, after which this symbology is viewed in light ofanthropological and psycoanalytic theory. AB Este ensayo establece un puente cultural entre el modernismo y el postmodernismo, centrándose en el uso del motif del círculo mítico en la literatura anglo-americana e hispánica. Comenzando con el análisis de “El Sonido y la Furia”, de Faulkner, el ensayo examina la simbología del círculo en el modernismo anglo-americano, tras el cual esta simbología es observada a la luz de la teoría antropológica y psicoanalítica. Se debate el uso del círculo por Borges como un enlace natural entre dos periodos, influenciado por los conceptos postmodernistas/postestructuralistas de “metaficción historiográfica” y “narratividad”.
