AB Entre las muchas aportaciones al panoramaliterario medieval que hace DonPedro (1429-1466), condestable de Portugaly primer autor portugués que escribeen castellano, su defensa de la dignidad delsexo femenino es quizás la menos estudiada.En este artículo se busca paliar dichacarencia con el fin de entender cómo DoñaIsabel (1432-1455) –hermana de Don Pedroy reina de Portugal– fue utilizada paraarticular una agenda política, literaria ypersonal en torno a la destrucción de laCasa de Avís tras la batalla de Alfarrobeira(1449).
AB The importance of Don Pedro’s literarypersonality in late medieval letters is undeniable.However, the contribution by DonPedro (1429-1466), Constable of Portugal,to the corpus on the defense of the dignityof the female gender is an aspect notyet fully explained by scholars. This articleaims to fill that void by analyzing howQueen Isabel of Portugal (1447-1455; b.in 1432 )–Don Pedro´s sister, and also areader of, and a character in, Don Pedro´sworks– was a key element in the articulationof a political, literary, and personalagenda that sprang from the ruin of theAvis family after the Battle of Alfarrobeira(1449).
