T1 Legality and legitimacy in the construction of the Indian nation

AB Este trabajo analiza el proceso de construcción del movimientonacional indio y la subsiguiente creación en 1947 de un Estado independientedel Imperio británico. En particular, el análisis se centra en los procesosy actores principales, Jawaharlal Nehru y Mohandas Gandhi, que hanpermitido a la India establecerse como una democracia estable e inclusivaa pesar de su alta heterogeneidad cultural, el trauma de la Partición conPakistán y la continua inestabilidad regional. Utilizando la teoría contractualistarousseauniana como marco teórico, el artículo utiliza los conceptos delegalidad y legitimidad como base para el análisis.
AB This paper analyses the process of construction of the Indiannational movement and the subsequent creation in 1947 of an independentstate from the British Empire. In particular, the analysis focuses on theprocesses and principal actors, Jawaharlal Nehru and Mohandas Gandhi,which have allowed India to establish itself as a stable and inclusive democracy,despite its high cultural heterogeneity, the trauma of Partition withPakistan and the ongoing regional instability. Using Rousseau’s contractualismas the theoretical framework, the article uses the concepts of legalityand legitimacy as the basis for its analysis.
