RT Journal Article T1 Patient and Public Involvement in Malnutrition Disorders Health Research: A Methodological Systematic Review Protocol A1 García García, Arturo A1 Carretero Randez, Cristina A1 Camacho Bejarano, Rafaela A1 Roldán Chicano, María Teresa A1 Castellano Santana, Pedro Raúl A1 Camacho Montaño, Laura Rocío A1 Montero Marco, Jesica A1 Charlo Bernardos, Marta A1 Orts Cortés, María Isabel AB Background/Objectives: Older adults are particularly susceptible to undernutritionand conditions that can aggravate it, such as frailty and conditions associatedwith swallowing difficulties or dysphagia. To address these challenges, it is importantto consider the perspectives of older adults and their caregivers, especially those withconditions such as frailty or cognitive impairment, as they can provide valuable insightson supporting nutrition in these vulnerable populations. This participatory approachrequires structures formed by scientific research committees working together with otherstakeholders, involving various actors at all stages of the research process. The aim of thisstudy is to analyze the methodology for involving patients aged 65 and older with malnutritionor at risk of malnutrition as co-investigators in research. Methods: This protocol hasbeen developed in accordance with the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviewsand Meta-Analyses (PRISMA-P) checklist. A literature search will be carried out in thefollowing electronic databases: PubMed/MEDLINE, EMBASE and CINAHL. Through theCOVIDENCE program, the research team will independently review the different screeningphases of the identified studies for possible inclusion or exclusion. Expected Results: This systematic review will provide up-to-date evidence on the use of non-scientific actorsat different stages of research. The main limitation stems from the use of non-scientificagents in a topic as specific as adults with or at risk of undernutrition, which may make itdifficult to extrapolate the results to other settings.
