T1 Las colegiatas de Andalucía ante el Concordato de 1851

AB Con este trabajo se pretende dar aconocer una faceta poco conocida de lahistoria institucional de la Iglesia: la de ladisolución de la mayoría de las colegiatasespañolas con motivo de la aplicación delConcordato de 1851. Para ello se ha optadopor el análisis de una documentaciónmuy concreta como son las exposicionesrealizadas por los propios cabildoscolegiales para intentar evitar el destinoseñalado y conseguir la conservación desus instituciones. En especial, aquellasque fueron enviadas al nuncio apostólicoen busca de su intermediación con elGobierno de España y que se conservanen el Archivo Secreto Vaticano. Gracias aello se ha podido analizar este proceso legaldesde el punto de vista de las institucionessuprimidas. En sus misivas al nuncio nosolo aparece reflejada su preocupación antelas medidas liberales, sino cuáles creían ellosque eran las fortalezas de sus colegiatas y lamejor estrategia para evitar la desaparición
AB The present paper aims to throw somelight on a rather unknown aspect of theinstitutional history of the Church, namely,the dissolution of most Spanish CollegiateChurches on account of the enforcement ofthe Concordat of 1851. In order to do so, wehave chosen to analyze a very specific kindof documents: the expositions drafted byCollegiate Church Councils in an attemptto avoid their designated fate and to warrantthe preservation of their institutions,particularly those expositions sent to theApostolic Nuncio looking for his mediationwith the Spanish Government and whichare now kept at the Vatican Secret Archives.In light of such documentation, we havebeen able to study this legal process fromthe viewpoint of the suppressed institutions.In their letters to the Nuncio, they revealednot only their grave concerns in the face ofliberal measures, but also what they believedto be the strengths of their Collegiatechurches and the best strategy to avert theirdemise
