AB En Oliver Twist, Ch. Dickens se explaya en una crítica de lascondiciones sociales de la Inglaterra del siglo XIX, cuya dureza habíaexperimentado de niño. El futuro de Oliver, un joven huérfano, sedebate entre las garras del hampa y la diáfana vida de la clasesacomodadas. En Rinconete y Cortadillo, publicado por Miguel deCervantes en 1613, creemos ver el punto de partida de la extensanovela de Dickens. Este artículo estudia los puntos de contacto entreambas obras, lo que obliga a una reflexión sobre las características delgénero y también una indagación en la influencia de Cervantes en laliteratura inglesa.____________________________________Charles Dickens took it upon himself to criticize the socialconditions in 19'h century England, of which he himself as a child hadbeen a potential victim, in the story of Oliver Twist, a young orphanwhose future as a delinquent or an upright member of society is thesubject of debate and intrigue. Rinconete and Cortadillo, written twocenturies earlier by Miguel de Cervantes, would seem to be a startingpoint for Dicken's Oliver Twist as numerous points of contact can beidentified. This leads to the question of the characteristics of genre aswell as the influence of Cervantes on English literature.
