Además, el encuentroentre Cervantes y Shakespeare se sitúaante el espejo biográfico y literario de dosgrandes de las letras contemporáneas deapellido casi homónimo, Jorge Luis Borgesy Anthony Burgess, en un intento de mostrarla capacidad de la imaginación poéticapara borrar los límites entre la vida y la literatura
AB In his biographies of Cervantes andShakespeare, Luis Astrana Marín conjectureda meeting between these two authors inValladolid (1605) on the occasion of theratification of the Treaty of London. Thisimprobable meeting has continued nurturinghistorical fictions and literary fantasies.Another crossroads between Cervantesand Shakespeare also takes place in the losttragicomedy The History of Cardenio (1612?),attributed to John Fletcher and WilliamShakespeare. A reconstruction of the dialoguebetween these two literary geniuses isattempted here through what we know aboutCardenio, as well as through its contemporaryrewritings. Moreover, the encounter betweenShakespeare and Cervantes is placed in thebiographical and literary mirror of two majornames of contemporary letters with almostidentical surnames, Jorge Luis Borges andAnthony Burgess, in an attempt to prove thepower of the poetic imagination to blur theboundaries between life and literature
