AB En la antigüedad, las catástrofes y lasdesgracias naturales se interpretan como unaconsecuencia directa del descontento de losdioses ante las diferentes acciones humanas.La negativa de los cristianos a participaren las ceremonias religiosas paganas, y enúltima instancia, a reconocer la existenciade estos mismos dioses, es considerada lacausa de la alteración de la pax deorum. Enconsecuencia, se responsabiliza a los cristianosde las desgracias que acontecen en elImperio Romano. La literatura apologéticase hace eco de estos reproches al tiempo queformula su defensa del cristianismo. Comoprueba de su inocencia, los apologistasexpresan el compromiso de los cristianoscon la sociedad a través del ejercicio de unaconducta cívica ejemplar. A su juicio, losverdaderos responsables de las catástrofesnaturales son los paganos, quienes con suconducta inmoral y las persecuciones de loscristianos han provocado la cólera divina
AB In Antiquity, catastrophes and naturaldisasters are interpreted as a direct consequenceof the displeasure of the gods to humanactions. The refusal of the Christians toparticipate in the pagan religious ceremonies,and ultimately, to acknowledge theexistence of these gods, is believed to be responsiblefor the alteration of the pax deorum.As a result, they hold the Christiansresponsible for the misfortunes that happenin the Roman Empire. Apologetic literatureechoed these criticisms at the same timethat devised his defence of Christianity.As a proof of the Christianity’s innocence,apologists expressed their commitmentwith society through the practice of anexemplary citizenship. In their opinion,the real culprits of the natural disasters arepagans, who with his immoral conductand the persecutions of the Christians haveprovoked the divine anger
