RT Journal Article T1 The first Cuban university chair of legal history : notes for its study A1 Mulet Martínez, Fabricio AB The present article approaches the University Chair of General History of Spanish Law, created at Havana University during the end of the 19th century, when Cuba was still under Spanish colonial rule. At first, the insertion of this subject was because of its inclusion in the University study program approved in the Iberian Peninsula, which were extended to the Island. Nevertheless, this process was also due to a series of factors such as the modernization of university education, the development of nationalist currents and the influence of the Historical School of Law. The article will analyze the particular conditions that led to the interest in historical-legal studies in Cuba, as well as the program of the subject matter and the work of the professors who held the ownership of the mentioned University Chair.
