AB Nuestra intención con el presente artículo es establecer claramentequé era lo que Gabriel García Márquez iba buscando en L’Éducationsentimentale cuando la leyó en 1983 como preparación para su siguientenovela, El amor en los tiempos del cólera. Es decir, trataremos de determinarsi aquella lectura de una de las principales obras de Flaubert tuvoalgún tipo de influencia o efecto en el resultado final de la novela de GarcíaMárquez. En este sentido nos centraremos en cuatro aspectos concretos: lacaracterización de Florentino Ariza, el título de la novela, el tratamiento deltiempo y el espacio, y la mezcla de ficción e historia.
AB Our aim with this article is to establish clearly what was whatGabriel García Márquez was looking for in L’Éducation sentimentale whenhe read it in 1983 as a preparation for his next novel, El amor en los tiemposdel cólera. That means, we will try to determine if that reading of one ofFlaubert’s main works had any kind of influence or effect in the final resultof García Márquez’s novel. In this sense we will focus on four specificaspects: Florentino Ariza’s characterization, the title of the novel, the treatmentof time and space, and the mixing of fiction and history.
