AB Según la tradición literaria, P. Rutilio Rufo fueun hombre justo y honesto. Pese a ello, fue declarado culpable cuando se le procesó por concusióna su regreso de Asia, donde fue como legado de Q.Mucio Escévola, gobernador de la provincia. Es casiunánime en las fuentes escritas que se trató de unavenganza urdida por los publicanos. Otra fuenteapunta como instigador real del proceso a M. Emilio Escauro, el cónsul del 115. Se trata de un personaje alabado en la tradición, de compleja y adaptable personalidad, una figura necesaria para entenderlos hechos. AB P. Rutilius Rufus was a fair and honest man,according to the literary tradition. He was foundguilty when he returned from Asia, as a publicani‘s revenge, who were damaged for the work as legatus of Q. Mucius Scaevola in the province. Another passage points to M. Aemilius Scaurus, cos. 115,as the real prosecutor in the trial. According to thetraditional view, Scaurus was a praise figure, witha very dubious and complex behavior, but necessary in order to understand the facts.
