AB El contenido de las Doce Tablas, de mediados elsiglo V a. de C., constituye un texto muy inseguro,defectuoso y de valor muy desigual, comodocumento jurídico que fue reflejo de la Roma deese período y anterior. Por la escasa y ambiguainformación que nos ha llegado, el asunto del roboy sobretodo, la búsqueda de los objetos robados,apenas resumido en los dos términos que sobre ellonos ha llegado, - lance et licio ,- fue ya un enigmapara la sociedad romana posterior, y ha seguidogenerando abundante controversia y bibliografíadesde hace más de un siglo. Creemos que analizarlos problemas de transmisión y ampliar el contextohistórico, geográfico y cultural, a otras culturastanto antiguas como primitivas actuales, puedeservir para obtener una visión más aproximada delsignificado de aquel mandato arcaico.
AB The content of the Twelve Tables - middle of the5th century BC. of C. -, constitutes a very insecure,defective text and of very unequal value, as a legaldocument that was a reflection of the Rome of thatperiod and before. Due to the scarce and ambiguousinformation that has reached us, the matter of therobbery and, above all, the search for the stolenobjects, barely summarized in the two terms thathave reached us about it, - lance et licio, - wasalready an enigma for the later Roman society, andhas continued to generate abundant controversyand literature for more than a century. We believethat analyzing the problems of transmissionand expanding the historical, geographical andcultural context to other cultures, both ancientand primitive today, can serve to obtain a moreapproximate vision of the meaning of that archaicmandate.
